To fully leverage the legacy of the two Olympics (Summer and Winter Games) in promoting the healthy growth of young people, the 2025 serial activities for youth Olympic education—“Exercise for Fitness and Happiness”—kicked off with the “Tracing Olympic Imprints and Pursuing the Dream” Youth Olympic Winter Camp. The camp was held at the Thaiwoo Ski Resort and the Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Village in Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, attracting nearly 200 adolescent students from Beijing and Zhangjiakou.

At the opening ceremony on November 21, Xia Rihong, Deputy Secretary General of the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) and Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, emphasised that the Olympic spirit resides in the world-renowned competition venues, but more importantly it should be sown in the hearts of all youths. He expressed the hope that this winter camp would promote the culture of the Dual Olympics, popularise winter sports, champion a healthy lifestyle, and plant the seeds of the Olympic spirit in the hearts of the youth in this unique journey. This would help them appreciate the value of teamwork and the pursuit of excellence. He encouraged the students to cherish the time of staying together, build strength through mutual support, grow through shared joy, and seek progress side by side.

The camp’s activities included the alpine skiing course, introduction to skiing and ski maintenance, lectures on Dual Olympics, and a visit to the Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Village. The event was held over three sessions, each lasting three days, ending on December 7. Its success marked the conclusion of the “Exercise for Fitness and Happiness” youth Olympic education serial activities as part of the 16th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival.

Since its inception in 2010, the “Exercise for Fitness and Happiness” youth Olympic education program has been a vital component of the Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association. Over the years, the program features a diverse array of activities, including domestic and international competitions in football, ice hockey, and mind sports; Olympic-themed photography and painting among other art activities; fitness activities like martial arts, rope skipping, and running; and summer and winter camps. These varied and engaging initiatives have effectively promoted the core Olympic values and contributed to both physical and mental development of young people.
