Chinese sports film receives Guirlande d’Honneur Award at SPORT MOVIES & TV 2025 in Milan——

The SPORT MOVIES & TV 2025 – 43rd Milano International FICTS Fest took place in Milan, Italy, from 7 to 11 October 2025. At the awards ceremony held at Palazzo Lombardia in Milan on the evening of 11 October, three Chinese sports films stood out from the intense international competition. Aim High and Run towards the Faint Light in Darkness were awarded Mention d’Honneur in the “Documentary – Individual Sport” category and the “Sport & Society / Sport & Youth” category, respectively. Antelope of the Plateau – China’s First Tibetan Olympic Champion Qieyang Shijie’s Journey in Pursuit of Her Dream received Guirlande d’Honneur Award in the “Olympic & Paralympic Spirit – Short” category. They were among the ten films submitted by the 21st Beijing International Sports Film Week (BISFW) this year to the worldwide final of “World FICTS Challenge 2025”.

Featuring tender yet resolute footage, Antelope of the Plateau – China’s First Tibetan Olympic Champion Qieyang Shijie’s Journey in Pursuit of Her Dream documents Qieyang Shijie’s remarkable journey from the plateau to the international stage. At the awards ceremony, director Hua Dancairang expressed his immense honour to be able to present this documentary about Qieyang Shijie’s dream-chasing story on the top global stage for sports film and TV productions. The accolade not only recognises the hard work of the production team but also pays tribute to Qieyang Shijie’s indomitable spirit, signifying international recognition of China’s sporting spirit. “In the future, we hope to tell more compelling Chinese stories through high-quality documentaries, so more people can better understand the struggles and dreams of those living on the plateau,” said the director.

Aim High and Run towards the Faint Light in Darkness showcase athletes’ dedication to pushing their limits and their strong mental fortitude. Through delicate cinematography, they also convey the profound significance of sports culture.

Five Chinese sports films were screened offline during SPORT MOVIES & TV 2025, impressing global audiences with China’s sporting spirit and sports culture. They were Running the Race: 100-year Celebration of Olympic Champion Eric Liddell, The Free Female Warrior, Aim High, Olympic Memories in Pin Exchanges, One and Only and Zero Distance in Sports – The Skipper.

There was also a special China Day exhibition presenting the posters of 30 shortlists for the final review of this year’s BISFW, as well as photos showing the glory and charm of Beijing, the first and only city in the world that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics. The exhibition displayed the highlights of the Opening and 

Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, its emblem and mascot posters, and some amazing moments of Chinese athletes at the Games, allowing the audience to relive the exciting and touching moments of the Games.

The BISFW is an Olympic-themed flagship programme launched in 2005. Co-hosted by the Beijing International Film Festival Organising Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee and BODA, the 21st BISFW received a total of 211 sports films.
