BODA awarded national flag once hoisted on Tiananmen Square

On 1 August 2025, the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) was awarded a national flag of China once hoisted on Tiananmen Square. The flag-awarding ceremony was held by the Tiananmen Area Administrative Committee of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. Yao Hui, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director General (Bureau Chief) of the Tiananmen Area Administrative Committee, and Ji Chuanpai, Deputy Secretary General of BODA and member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director General of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, attended the ceremony.

Before the ceremony started, Yao Hui introduced the applicable regulations and requirements on the usage of the national flag. On behalf of the Tiananmen Area Administrative Committee, he signed a flag presentation agreement with BODA. According to the agreement, the flag will be displayed in the “spirit of Beijing 2022” exhibition area at the Beijing Olympic Museum. This will hold great significance to the museum’s endeavours to build a high-standard patriotic education base, carry out patriotic education and help foster a sense of shared identity of the Chinese nation.

The national flag, numbered 2022-0046, measures 5 metres in length and 3.3 metres in height, and weighs 1,800 grams. It was hoisted on Tiananmen Square on 8 April 2022, when the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics review and awards ceremony was held. At the ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping first proposed and elaborated on the spirit of Beijing 2022, that is, to bear in mind the big picture, be confident and open, rise to challenges, pursue excellence, and create a better future together.
