On 19 April 2025, a lively event aimed at promoting the emerging sport of Teqball was held at Vintage, Chaoyang District during the 21st Beijing International Sports Film Week. A Teqball themed sport presentation was delivered at the event, captivating the audiences with intense competition shown in the sports films and television productions and also the exciting live performances.

Top Chinese Teqball players Zhang Junming and Sun Chouxu strut their stuff with powerful smashes, high-speed spins, curved drives and other impressive movements, demonstrating the charm of this fast-paced sport that requires quick reflexes and agility.

Teacher and student players from Capital University of Physical Education and Sports displayed a variety of skills, ranging from basic ball control to offense and defence coordination, uncovering the secrets of how angles, spins, and power work together in this thrilling sport. The audiences felt up close the excitement and tension of Teqball and also tried it out in the experience zone. Under the instruction of professional players, those who were interested got hands-on with this sport, saying that “the sport is a test of reflexes and full of fun”.

Cao Xiandong, a famous football ex-player from Beijing Guoan F.C., made a surprise appearance at the event. He interacted with the Teqball players and the audiences, and got a taste of this trendy sport combining table tennis and football techniques.

According to the host of the event, this is the first time that Teqball has been featured in the BISFW. By leveraging film and television as outreach tools and offering on-site experiences, this promotional event has increased the visibility of Teqball and allowed more people to learn about and take interest in the trendy, competitive sport. This also contributes to advancing extensive public fitness initiatives and making better use of the Olympic legacy. More collaborative efforts will be conducted to make Teqball a new hallmark of integrated development of culture, commerce, tourism and sports in Beijing.

Teqball originated in Hungary in 2014 and has since then gained popularity worldwide as a spectator-friendly and highly engaging sport. At present, there are about 5,000 Teqball athletes in more than 150 countries and territories, as well as over 2,000 clubs.

In recent years, the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) and the Fédération Internationale de TEQBALL (FITEQ) have deepened cooperation to popularise the sport in Beijing. The two signed a memorandum of understanding on 23 July 2024, and the Beijing Teqball Association was established on the same day, with the strong support of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports. In September 2024, Teqball World Series Beijing, a high-level international event second only to the World Championships, was held at the south gate plaza of the Beijing Olympic Forest Park. This event was co-organised by FITEQ, BODA, the Beijing Sports Federation and the Chaoyang District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. More than 120 athletes and 80 teams from 16 countries competed in the men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The total prize reached USD60,000, the highest in the history of the Teqball World Series.

The Theme Forum of the 21st Beijing International Sports Film Week was held at Vintage, Chaoyang District, on 18 April. Themed “The Olympics Through the Lens of Film”, this BISFW leverages the unique role of Beijing, the first and the only city that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics, and the rich Olympic legacy to increase the reach of sports culture. It aims to spread the Olympic spirit through the medium of sports films and television productions, promote the interaction between Chinese and foreign sports cultures and tell touching and inspiring Chinese sports stories to the whole world.
