Hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and co-organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and the Changping District People’s Government, the Little Triathlete of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival took place at YL Youth Sports Camp, Ming Tombs Reservoir, Changping District on 25 August. Gao Yunchao, Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and Shi Fenghua, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau, attended the event.

Taking into full account of the physical characteristics of different age groups, the Little Triathlete consists of three categories: “Super Sprint (U15)”, “Super Sprint (U12)” and “Mini Distance (U9)”. Participants in the U9 category are required to finish a 300m swim, a 6.4km bike ride and a 1.6km run. For the U12 and U15 groups, the challenge includes a 300m swim, an 8km bike ride and a 1.6km run. A total of 500 young athletes signed up for this year’s triathlon.
Upon the firing of the starting gun on the morning of 25 August, the young athletes competed with passion and determination in the water and on the track, writing their own stories about encourage, challenge and growth. After intense competition, the rankings of competitors in each category were determined.

As a signature event of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival, the triathlon has been held for three consecutive years in the triathlon venue used for the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, aiming to allow young athletes to experience the Olympic culture, inherit the Olympic spirit and gain a special competition experience. With the continuous upgrade year by year, the race has become an important sporting event in Beijing that is widely followed by teenagers and parents, with registration spots quickly filled up once released. Due to its enduring brand influence, many teenagers from cities beyond Beijing signed up for the event.
Following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, there was also a dual Olympic campsite event in YL Youth Sports Camp, Changping District from 24 to 25 August, allowing the young athletes to better experience the Olympic culture and enjoy Olympic sports. Filled with Olympic elements, the campsite consisted of photo spot locations with Olympic collections, a local product marketplace, a cycling theme zone, a water sport theme zone, a running theme zone and an Olympic painting zone, giving visitors an impressive sports and cultural experience. The torches, medals and mascots of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 were exhibited. Additionally, fun experiences and specialized training on swimming, cycling and running were provided to better familiarise the youngsters with the Little Triathlete and prepare them for the competition.

Established by BODA in 2010, the Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival is an IOC-certified flagship Olympic legacy programme and has been held 14 times in a row. It features a diverse range of sports activities, playing a vital role in promoting the Olympic spirit and culture, advancing the Healthy China Initiative and helping build China into a country strong in sports. It is learned that the Run Girls women’s race will take place in the Qikong Bridge flower field and Ming Tombs Reservoir, Changping District on 1 September.
