Zhangjiakou to Host 2029 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships

Zhangjiakou wins the bid to host the 2029 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships


At the congress, Johan Eliasch President of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and Secretary-General Michelle Gisi signed an agreement with Wang Lei, Director of the Winter Sports Management Centre of the General Administration of Sport of China, and Liu Haifeng, Vice Mayor of Zhangjiakou. Johan Eliasch presented the plaque designating Zhangjiakou as the host city for the 2029 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships. The plaque was received by Wang Lei, Liu Haifeng and Wang Biao, Director of the Hebei Provincial Bureau of Sports.


The FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships is the highest-level snow sports event organised by IFS and takes place every two years. The 2029 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships will be the highest-level snow event held in China after the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and also be the first time for China to hold a world ski championship. Zhangjiakou will further promote sustainable utilisation of the Winter Olympic legacy, popularise winter sports and boost the ice and snow industry while working to deliver a spectacular and unforgettable Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships.


During the congress, Zhangjiakou also held an exhibition showcasing the development of ice and snow sports in the city in recent years, the utilisation of Winter Olympic venues, the vigorous development of professional and mass sports events, as well as local customs. Also present at the congress were Guo Zhiwei, Vice Chairman of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Director of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Sports, officials from relevant departments of Zhangjiakou City and Chongli District and representatives from Zhangjiakou Genting Snow Park.
