“Dual Olympic City” Thematic Exhibition Opens in the Summer Palace

The “Dual Olympic City” Thematic Exhibition of the 14th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival opened in the Summer Palace on 18 December 2023. Fu Xiaohui, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development CenterCenter, and Zhang Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Beijing Municipal Administration CenterCenter of Parks, attended the ceremony. Ji Chuanpai, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development CenterCenter, and Li Xiaoguang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Beijing Summer Palace Administration, delivered remarks on behalf of the host and organiser, respectively.

Co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Center and the Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks and organised by the Beijing Summer Palace Administration, the “Dual Olympic City” Thematic Exhibition consists of six parts: First-Class Venues across Beijing, Ever-Improving Infrastructure, Flourishing Economy, Coordinated Regional Development, Extensive Fitness-for-All Initiatives, and Olympic Culture Prevails Nationwide. The exhibition features 140 images and 72 boards presenting the valuable legacy and profound changes brought by the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 to Beijing, highlighting the unique charm of the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter editions of the Olympic Games.

Ji Chuanpai said in his speech that the two Games left an abundance of Olympic legacy to Beijing, which constitutes Beijing’s distinctive Olympic culture. The “Dual Olympic City” Thematic Exhibition is part of the efforts to implement the guidelines of General Secretary Xi Jinping on Olympic legacy and to promote the Olympic culture, and is also an important component of “Dual Olympic” culture promotion of the 14th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival. By integrating Olympic culture and traditional Chinese culture, the exhibition aims to demonstrate Beijing’s Olympic culture and present to visitors the beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage of the Summer Palace and the remarkable achievements and great glories of Beijing as the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics, thus inspiring hard work in the new era.

Li Xiaoguang introduced that the Summer Palace has organised a variety of activities to promote the “Dual Olympic” culture, such as the “Dual Olympic City, Beacon of the Future – Dual Olympic Culture Thematic Exhibition”, the Summer Palace Culture and Sports Workshop, celebrations of the Qixi Festival, and the first class of “Dual Olympic” culture on the first day of school. These activities are intended to promote Beijing’s image as the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics and add more “Chinese flavour” to Olympic culture, winning wide praise from visitors. The Summer Palace will continue serving as a window to showcase Beijing’s image, carry forward Olympic legacy, spread Olympic culture, constantly build a positive atmosphere after the Games, and tell Chinese Olympic stories well to the whole world.

The “Dual Olympic City” Thematic Exhibition will last till February 2024. During the period, the Youth Winter Sports Carnival will also be held, featuring ice track cycling relay race, parent-child sled competition and other activities.

Present at the opening ceremony of the exhibition were Pi Yaming, Director of the Office of the Beijing Olympic City Development Center, Lv Wenjun, Director of the Communications Division of the Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks, and Wang Shubiao, Lv Gaoqiang and Du Juan, deputy chiefs of the Beijing Summer Palace Administration. Qi Xuan, Deputy Director of the Communications Department of the Beijing Olympic City Development Center, presided over the opening ceremony.
